When the Historical Society of Washington established The City Museum, devoted to the rich history of Washington, D.C., gsmprjctº was contracted to design and develop the overall concept for the museum, including a state-of-the-art multimedia show called Washington Stories.

gsmprjctº intégration was given the massive responsibility of putting the show together within a very short timeframe, due to the fact that the museum was undergoing major restoration work. For this reason, the show was entirely programmed, built, pre-assembled, tested, and pre-approved in Montreal — ensuring its utmost quality and proper functioning — prior to being dismantled, shipped, and installed at the museum in Washington. The packing and shipping of the components — in custom-built crates that had to fit through a 2 x 3 ft. window at the museum, which, being a heritage building, lacked a loading bay — was also handled by gsmprjctº intégration.

gsmprjctº intégration also made recommendations for the structural, architectural, and electrical systems of the multimedia theatre in order to accommodate the show’s behind-the-scenes components including the elaborate backstage structure, as well as set pieces, motors, pulleys, beams, and cables controlling automated movements and seven different video projectors.

The show simply requires the push of a button to start it and is automatically reset at the end of each presentation. This translates to ease of operation for the museum staff, with a minimal amount of maintenance required.
